 Company Profile

Goodwill Industries® of the Conemaugh Valley (GICV), Inc.

Goodwill Industries of the Conemaugh Valley (GICV), Inc. is a community-based member organization of Goodwill Industries International, a 179-member network in the U.S., Canada, and 13 other countries.

GICV was established in Johnstown, Pennsylvania in 1962 as an independent nonprofit organization to empower people with barriers to employment.  Headquartered in the Moxham section of Johnstown, GICV serves job seekers throughout south central Pennsylvania in Bedford, Blair, Cambria, Huntingdon, Indiana, and Somerset counties by providing education and career services as well as job placement and postemployment opportunities.  In addition, GICV partners with area businesses to support a cause that aligns with its corporate values, promotes social responsibility, and bolsters development of today’s workforce.

When most people hear the name "Goodwill," they think of the stores that sell items donated by the public.  But that’s only part of Goodwill’s larger great story.  The lesser-known but very critical role that Goodwill plays is to provide job training and employment support services to individuals with disadvantages and disabilities, dislocated workers, youth, and other job seekers.  The greatest financial support for these in-demand services comes from the role for which Goodwill is best known—the sale of donated goods.  Approximately 91 cents of every dollar generated from the sale of donated clothing and goods is directed into education, career services, and other needed community programs operated by Goodwill.

GICV currently operates 10 Goodwill Retail Stores in six counties.  In addition to generating supportive funding, these stores serve as workforce training sites for a number of the job training programs, preparing workers for job placement elsewhere in the community.  GICV also operates many training and employment programs and services, which are described under the "Serving Individuals" and "Serving Businesses" sections on the main menu of this website.  All facets of GICV's services work hand-in-hand for the common good.

GICV's corporate office is located at 540–542 Central Avenue, Johnstown, Pennsylvania, 15902.
